Exciting day for me

Today I was able to pick up the invitations for the Watercolour Society of WA Annual Awards Exhibtion which is being held at the Fremantle Italian Club from Oct 8 - 11. Exciting for me because my painting of camellias "Pink Radiance" is featured on the invitation.

Tomorrow I will start work of one of the two paintings that I still have to do for the exhibtion, have to get cracking and get them done. I have frames that I am recycling so don't have the pressure of having to get them framed.

I picked up the painting of the camellias from the framer today, my sister in law has already bought it so I will be taking her cheque to the exhibition and with a red sticker on the painting.

Starting again

I am just starting to get back into painting again! I have two paintings to do for the coming Watercolour Society of WA Annual Awards Exhibition in early October, so have to get busy. What is very exciting for me is that my painting "Pink Radiance" is on the official invitation for the exhibition. I will be able to get one in the next couple of days so will put a scan of it on my blog as soon as I can.

My Mum

I haven't been very active lately, tried doing some painting but it just wasn't working. My Mum aged 93 was in hospital for two and a half weeks and sadly she passed away a couple of days ago. Mum had been in a lot of pain, which even strong pain killers didn't help and they couldn't resolve what was causing it. In the end her organs gave up. Mum said she had had a good life and it was time to go.

My brother came from New York, but sadly didn't get here in time, but it is lovely having him here and helping my sister and the rest of the family get closure. We are having a family memorial service this afternoon.

It is hard to believe that Mum has gone, we have had so many close calls, but this has been final one.

Not enough time at the moment!

Since coming back from Bathurst NSW where I did a winter art school, which was absolutely terrific, I managed to bring a bug back with me and have not felt the best. Had one day in bed and slept most of the day, but gradually getting better. Still managed to do the MOTL market last Saturday, had a reasonable day, but have to give a lot of thought of how to best set up my market stall next time.

I have not had time to get back into painting, apart from being sick, my Mum has gone off to hospital again. Mum is 93 and coming close to 94, so life is getting harder for her. She still has been living independently, but only just with my help. She lives close by which helps. But for how much longer we don't know, it is going to depend on how she pulls out of this current crisis.

I'm off to babysit my two little grand daughters in the morning, which will be a lovely fun morning. Gracie is 3.5 years and Ava 2.5 and they have a lovely time playing babies together.

Made on the Left Market

Only three days to go to the Made on the Left market at the Hyde Park Hotel cnr of Bulwer and Fitzgerald Streets North Perth open 10am - 4pm. I am taking part on Saturday, tring to get things done and finished off, thank goodness I did a lot before I went east two weeks ago.

Have come home with a nasty throat which has developed into an awful cough, need to get rid of it by Saturday morning! I think I will be spending the day inside today, keeping warm.

New Paintings

I have been busy with the paints and have finished off several small landscapes. I felt like a change from florals, still working on a few more.

Yesterday was a wet day and good to be inside painting, it is a long time since we had so much rain in one day, today it is quite cold and the rain has gone again. I've got a watercolour video going in the background.

A big surprise for me

Last October 2008 at the Watercolour Society of Western Australia Annual Awards Exhibition, I really surprised myself (and many others) by taking off the top prize with my painting of an iris. It is quite a good size 500cm x 500cm (19 3/4" x 19 3/4") before framing.

It was the first time I had worked on an easel standing up to the painting, and that I think contributed to a better flow with the brushes.

My sister in law was so excited on the night that she bought it, she did not want it to go out of the family. So every time we go to visit Lorelie we see my painting which is rather nice.

I took some weeks to come down to earth, and still have to pinch myself to realise "I did it". The trophy sits on the mantle piece until this coming October. Plus the next invitation will have one of my paintings on it, one of the privileges that comes with the prize. It is all pretty exciting stuff.

New to Blogging

This is a new experience for me to have a blog, but I am willing to learn!

We have just had a lovely picnic lunch with four of our grandchildren in the park, it is a beautiful day here in Perth today, sunshine, pleasant temperature. But we need the rain, we've just had the warmest May on record. Not good for our water supplies. Rain is predicted but where is it.

I should be painting, maybe I will get to it soon.

This painting called 'Blue Moon' is in the Alfred Cove Art Society Annual Awards Exhibition currently running until the 7th June at the Atwell Gallery.
