Family Gathering

Just finished my canvas work 'Family Gathering' a mixed media project with acrylics. It is ready for an exhibition on the weekend.

The little bird is the Spendid Blue Wren found in the south-west of Western Australia. He looses his colour in winter and colours up again in spring ready to attract the female wrens.

He is a favourite of mine. When we lived in the south west the wrens nested in our garden.

Been to a great workshop today

I've been to a great workshop today with Malini Parker. It was doing astract with acrylic, she is a wonderful teacher, gives so much.

I am going back on Sunday to do another one with her as she has a vacancy in the class. I'll put some pictures up tomorrow when I have had a chance to do some photographs.

A big surprise for me

Last October 2008 at the Watercolour Society of Western Australia Annual Awards Exhibition, I really surprised myself (and many others) by taking off the top prize with my painting of an iris. It is quite a good size 500cm x 500cm (19 3/4" x 19 3/4") before framing.

It was the first time I had worked on an easel standing up to the painting, and that I think contributed to a better flow with the brushes.

My sister in law was so excited on the night that she bought it, she did not want it to go out of the family. So every time we go to visit Lorelie we see my painting which is rather nice.

I took some weeks to come down to earth, and still have to pinch myself to realise "I did it". The trophy sits on the mantle piece until this coming October. Plus the next invitation will have one of my paintings on it, one of the privileges that comes with the prize. It is all pretty exciting stuff.
